Kuntze em diferentes tipologias urbanas\u201d, por meio de videoconfer\u00eancia<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Impactos do clima e da polui\u00e7\u00e3o do ar no desenvolvimento de \u00e1rvores de <em>Tipuana tipu<\/em> (Benth.) Kuntze em diferentes tipologias urbanas.<\/h3>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>RESUMO<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A urbaniza\u00e7\u00e3o crescente vem intensificando os impactos das mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas globais, pois \u00e9 um processo diretamente associado \u00e0 remo\u00e7\u00e3o da vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o, \u00e0 impermeabiliza\u00e7\u00e3o do solo e ao aumento das emiss\u00f5es de gases poluentes. Nesse contexto, as \u00e1rvores urbanas desempenham um papel fundamental na promo\u00e7\u00e3o da resili\u00eancia clim\u00e1tica e na provis\u00e3o de servi\u00e7os ecossist\u00eamicos. No entanto, os ambientes urbanos imp\u00f5em desafios espec\u00edficos ao desenvolvimento das \u00e1rvores, exigindo estrat\u00e9gias com embasamento t\u00e9cnico e cient\u00edfico para a implementa\u00e7\u00e3o e o manejo das infraestruturas verdes. Esta tese investigou diferentes aspectos das solu\u00e7\u00f5es baseadas na natureza em ambientes urbanos, com \u00eanfase no papel das \u00e1rvores como elementos-chave para adaptar as cidades frente \u00e0s mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas globais. No primeiro cap\u00edtulo, foi desenvolvido um modelo de classifica\u00e7\u00e3o de \u201cbiomas urbanos\u201d, baseado em dados de clima e vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o, com o objetivo de associar a heterogeneidade ambiental da cidade de S\u00e3o Paulo aos biomas naturais brasileiros mais semelhantes a cada regi\u00e3o do munic\u00edpio. Essa proposta visou fornecer embasamento te\u00f3rico para apoiar as tomadas de decis\u00f5es relacionadas \u00e0 sele\u00e7\u00e3o de esp\u00e9cies vegetais mais compat\u00edveis com as caracter\u00edsticas espec\u00edficas de cada microambiente urbano. O segundo cap\u00edtulo teve como foco a dendrocronologia, o estudo dos an\u00e9is de crescimento da madeira, e seu uso como ferramenta para investigar o desenvolvimento e as respostas fisiol\u00f3gicas das \u00e1rvores, contribuindo com subs\u00eddios te\u00f3ricos para a implementa\u00e7\u00e3o e manejo de infraestruturas verdes urbanas. Neste cap\u00edtulo, foi conduzida uma revis\u00e3o sistem\u00e1tica sobre o uso de is\u00f3topos est\u00e1veis em an\u00e1lises intra-anuais de an\u00e9is de crescimento, com o intuito de identificar o estado da arte dessa abordagem na dendrocronologia e discutir seu potencial para aplica\u00e7\u00f5es, inclusive em contextos urbanos. No terceiro cap\u00edtulo, a dendrocronologia foi aplicada com o intuito de gerar conhecimento emp\u00edrico a partir de um cen\u00e1rio urbano real. Foi conduzida uma abordagem <em>multiproxy<\/em> dos an\u00e9is de crescimento \u2013 incluindo medidas de largura, densidade e assinaturas isot\u00f3picas de carbono (\u03b413C) e oxig\u00eanio (\u03b418O) \u2013 para avaliar os efeitos da irriga\u00e7\u00e3o no crescimento de \u00e1rvores urbanas da esp\u00e9cie <em>Tipuana tipu<\/em> (Benth.) Kuntze em uma pra\u00e7a central de Lisboa, Portugal. As \u00e1rvores irrigadas dobraram sua taxa de crescimento, sem comprometer significativamente a resist\u00eancia da madeira, destacando a condut\u00e2ncia estom\u00e1tica como principal fator limitante ao crescimento. Este estudo atendeu \u00e0s demandas do poder p\u00fablico para tomar decis\u00f5es sobre pr\u00e1ticas de manejo e implementa\u00e7\u00e3o de infraestruturas verdes urbanas eficazes. O quarto cap\u00edtulo apresenta um estudo aplicado de dendrocronologia, com uma abordagem <em>multiproxy<\/em> intra-anual focada em is\u00f3topos est\u00e1veis de carbono e densidade da madeira. Este estudo se baseou no conhecimento desenvolvido no segundo cap\u00edtulo e aplicou a t\u00e9cnica de abla\u00e7\u00e3o a laser para a an\u00e1lise de \uf06413C, superando limita\u00e7\u00f5es t\u00e9cnicas na escala intra-anual. O objetivo foi avaliar se os sinais de redu\u00e7\u00e3o da polui\u00e7\u00e3o atmosf\u00e9rica durante os per\u00edodos de distanciamento social (<em>lockdowns<\/em>) impostos pela pandemia do COVID-19 foram registrados nos an\u00e9is de crescimento de \u00e1rvores urbanas. A redu\u00e7\u00e3o de 12CO2 atmosf\u00e9rico levou a um aumento significativo no \u03b413C dos segmentos intra-anuais formados durante o <em>lockdown<\/em>. Por outro lado, os efeitos no crescimento n\u00e3o foram evidentes, mas a densidade da madeira nos segmentos intra-anuais formados durante este per\u00edodo indica um ajuste na efici\u00eancia do uso da \u00e1gua em resposta \u00e0s menores concentra\u00e7\u00f5es de CO2 atmosf\u00e9rico. Em conjunto, os quatro estudos desta tese buscaram construir conhecimento para fortalecer a base cient\u00edfica voltada \u00e0 implementa\u00e7\u00e3o e ao manejo de solu\u00e7\u00f5es baseadas na natureza em contextos urbanos, investigando a apropria\u00e7\u00e3o dos m\u00e9todos, e considerando tanto as condi\u00e7\u00f5es ambientais quanto os mecanismos fisiol\u00f3gicos que influenciam a performance das \u00e1rvores<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Palavras-Chave:<\/strong> Solu\u00e7\u00f5es baseadas na natureza; dendrocronologia; is\u00f3topos est\u00e1veis; <em>Tipuana tipu<\/em>; \u00e1rvores urbanas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ongoing process of urbanization has been exacerbating the impacts of global climate change, as it is directly associated with vegetation removal, soil sealing, and increased emissions of air pollutants. In this context, urban trees play a critical role in enhancing climate resilience and providing ecosystem services. However, urban environments pose specific challenges to tree development, requiring strategies grounded in technical and scientific knowledge for the implementation and management of green infrastructure. This dissertation investigated different aspects of nature-based solutions in urban settings, with an emphasis on the role of trees as key elements in supporting urban adaptation to global climate change. In the first chapter, an \u201curban biome\u201d classification model was developed based on climate and vegetation data, aiming to associate the environmental heterogeneity of S\u00e3o Paulo with the Brazilian natural biomes that most closely resemble each region of the city. This approach was intended to provide theoretical foundations to support decision-making processes related to the selection of plant species that are better suited to the specific characteristics of each urban microenvironment. The second chapter focused on dendrochronology, the study of tree-ring formation in wood and its use as a tool to investigate tree development and physiological responses, thereby contributing theoretical support for the implementation and management of urban green infrastructure. A systematic review was conducted on the use of stable isotopes in intra-annual tree-ring analyses, aiming to identify the state of the art of this approach in dendrochronology and discuss its potential for application, including in urban contexts. In the third chapter, dendrochronology was applied to generate empirical knowledge from a real urban scenario. A multiproxy tree-ring approach \u2013 including measurements of ring width, wood density, and stable carbon (\u03b4\u00b9\u00b3C) and oxygen (\u03b4\u00b9\u2078O) isotopic signatures \u2013 was conducted to assess the effects of irrigation on the growth of <em>Tipuana tipu<\/em> (Benth.) Kuntze trees in a central square in Lisbon, Portugal. Irrigated trees doubled their growth rate without significantly compromising wood strength, highlighting stomatal conductance as the main limiting factor for tree growth. This study met the demands of local authorities for decision-making regarding management practices and the implementation of effective urban green infrastructure. The fourth chapter presents an applied dendrochronological study using an intra-annual multiproxy approach focused on stable carbon isotopes and wood density. This study builds upon the knowledge developed in the second chapter and applies the laser ablation technique for \u03b4\u00b9\u00b3C analysis, overcoming technical limitations at the intra-annual scale. The objective was to assess whether the signals of reduced air pollution during the COVID-19 lockdown periods were recorded in the growth rings of urban trees. The reduction in atmospheric <sup>12<\/sup>CO<sub>2<\/sub> led to a significant increase of \u03b4\u00b9\u00b3C in the intra-annual tree-ring segments formed during the lockdown. Although the effects on growth are not evident, the wood density of the intra-annual segments formed during this period indicates an adjustment in water use efficiency in response to lower atmospheric CO<sub>2<\/sub> concentrations.
