Among the tropical forest formations, Seasonally Dry Tropical Forests (SDTF), was recently recognized as an extensive biome with a wide geographic distribution formed by disjunct areas (nuclei). Despite the high seasonality to which they are submitted, formations of SDTF harbor high floristic endemism and high beta-diversity. The Caatingas Domain occupies one of the most continuous and most extensive disjunct areas of the SDTF. Considering the progress of environmental degradation and fragmentation, studies that address ecological strategies of plants are relevant to contribute to the understanding of how plants use resources and work and the damage caused by indiscriminate exploitation by human activities. The use of approaches based on functional traits (traits) and phylogenetic relatedness, as an investigation tool, has increased in recent years because their patterns presented by plants expand the understanding of ecological mechanisms that involve the interaction between organisms and their occurrence environments. Thus, the variations found in traits are due to environmental and evolutionary pressures. The present study consists of 8 areas and the species collected are inserted in a vegetation matrix of Arboreal Caatinga (Caatingas Domain, FTSS). The present thesis had as general objective to explore the patterns of functional characteristics of the plant among 25 representative species of Arboreal Caatinga. The findings obtained from this study may contribute to the knowledge of the functioning and structuring of plant communities under limited water availability and the importance of preserving the diversity of species that are in decline due to anthropogenic environmental changes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>keywords:<\/strong> dry forests, avoiding dehydration, tolerance to dehydration, phylogenetic signal, limited water availability<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESUMO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Forma\u00e7\u00f5es florestais localizadas na regi\u00e3o tropical t\u00eam papel importante, por exemplo, na manuten\u00e7\u00e3o da biodiversidade, ciclos biogeoclim\u00e1ticos e regula\u00e7\u00e3o do clima, no entanto, a explora\u00e7\u00e3o indiscriminada dessas florestas tem se intensificado e s\u00e3o esperados efeitos negativos em fun\u00e7\u00e3o das mudan\u00e7as ambientais e clim\u00e1ticas. Dentre as forma\u00e7\u00f5es florestais tropicais, Florestas Tropicais Sazonalmente Secas (FTSS), recentemente, foi reconhecida como um extenso bioma de ampla distribui\u00e7\u00e3o geogr\u00e1fica formada por \u00e1reas disjuntas (n\u00facleos). Apesar da elevada sazonalidade em que est\u00e3o submetidas, forma\u00e7\u00f5es de FTSS abrigam elevado endemismo flor\u00edstico e elevada beta-diversidade. O Dom\u00ednio das Caatingas ocupa uma das \u00e1reas disjuntas mais cont\u00ednuas e de maior extens\u00e3o das FTSS. Considerando o avan\u00e7o da degrada\u00e7\u00e3o e fragmenta\u00e7\u00e3o ambiental, estudos que abordam estrat\u00e9gias ecol\u00f3gicas das plantas s\u00e3o relevantes para contribuir na compreens\u00e3o de como as plantas utilizam os recursos e funcionam e os danos causados pela explora\u00e7\u00e3o indiscriminada por atividades humanas. O uso de abordagens baseadas em caracter\u00edsticas funcionais (CF) e rela\u00e7\u00f5es filogen\u00e9ticas, como ferramenta de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o, tem aumentado nos anos mais recentes porque seus padr\u00f5es apresentados pelas plantas ampliam a compreens\u00e3o dos mecanismos ecol\u00f3gicos que envolvem a intera\u00e7\u00e3o entre os organismos e seus ambientes de ocorr\u00eancia. Assim, as varia\u00e7\u00f5es encontradas nas CF s\u00e3o decorrentes de press\u00f5es ambientais e evolutivas. O presente estudo consiste em 8 \u00e1reas e as esp\u00e9cies coletadas est\u00e3o inseridas em uma matriz vegetacional de Caatinga Arb\u00f3rea (Dom\u00ednio das Caatingas, FTSS). A presente tese teve como objetivo geral explorar os padr\u00f5es de caracter\u00edsticas funcionais da planta entre 25 esp\u00e9cies representativas de Caatinga Arb\u00f3rea.
