(Convolvulaceae) no Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo, Brasil\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A banca examinadora foi presidida pela Dra. Ros\u00e2ngela Sim\u00e3o Bianchini (IBt), tendo como membros externos a Dra. Ana Rita Giraldes Sim\u00f5es (IBt) a e Dra. Maria Beatriz Rossi Caruzo (UNIFESP).<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">O g\u00eanero <em>Merremia Dennst. ex Endl<\/em>. (<em>Convolvulaceae<\/em>) no Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo, Brasil<\/h3>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Convolvulaceae comprises 60 genera and about 1,900 species with worldwide distribution, although the greatest diversity of species occurs in the tropics (about 90%). <em>Merremia<\/em> Dennst. ex Endl. is one of the largest genera of the family, covering 101 species of tropical and subtropical distribution, 17 of them occurring in Brazil. This genus is difficult to characterize, and no character is found to support its monophyly. It is most of all an aggregation of species, defined by sets of non-exclusive characters, such as the corolla usually white or yellow, with anthers twisting after anthesis, colpate pollen grains with psilate and granulose exine, and 2-lobed stigma. This work aims at incrementing the knowledge of <em>Merremia<\/em> from the State of S\u00e3o Paulo, through taxonomic and morphological studies, thus contributing to completion of the Convolvulaceae monograph in the project \u201cFlora Fanerog\u00e2mica do Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo\u201d (FFESP). The taxonomic study was conducted by analyzing the collections of 14 herbaria, with 690 specimens from the study area, and samples acquired through recent expeditions to the field, as well as literature review. The micromorphological study was made through analysis of light microscopy with clarified leaves and scanning electron microscopy. In total, 11 species of <em>Merremia<\/em> were recorded for the State of S\u00e3o Paulo, and characterized using leaf characters, indumentum density and type of trichomes. The species were found growing in Cerrado, forest edges and anthropic environment. This work provides: an identification key for the species; a revision of the accepted synonymy; complete morphological descriptions and foliar architecture; geographic distribution; comments on taxonomic relationships; conservation status; uses; photographs; illustrations and maps. The delimitation of three species was further clarified: <em>M. hirsuta<\/em> (rediscovered), <em>M. maragniensis<\/em> (changed to species level), and <em>M. hoehnei<\/em> (proposed as new species). This dissertation is divided into five chapters: the taxonomic treatment for the State of S\u00e3o Paulo; a synopsis including characterization of the genus in Brazil and comments on the species found in S\u00e3o Paulo; the description of a new species; the description of architecture and surface of the leaf; and the delimitation of species by morphometric analysis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Keywords<\/strong>: Biodiversity, leaf morphology, lianas, ruderal plants, taxonomic novelties, vines.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>RESUMO<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Convolvulaceae abrange 60 g\u00eaneros e cerca de 1.900 esp\u00e9cies, com distribui\u00e7\u00e3o cosmopolita, por\u00e9m a maior diversidade de esp\u00e9cies (cerca de 90%) ocorre nas regi\u00f5es tropicais, sendo <em>Merremia<\/em> Dennst. ex Endl. um dos maiores g\u00eaneros da fam\u00edlia, formado por 101 esp\u00e9cies de distribui\u00e7\u00e3o tropical e subtropical, das quais 17 delas ocorrem no Brasil. O g\u00eanero \u00e9 dif\u00edcil de caracterizar, pois n\u00e3o possui uma sinapormofia morfol\u00f3gica, sendo as esp\u00e9cies definidas por conjuntos de caracteres n\u00e3o exclusivos, como a corola geralmente alva ou amarela, anteras torcidas ap\u00f3s antese, gr\u00e3os de p\u00f3len colpado com exina psilada e granulosa e estigma 2-globoso. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo o conhecimento das esp\u00e9cies de <em>Merremia<\/em> do Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo, por meio de estudos taxon\u00f4micos e morfol\u00f3gicos, assim contribuindo para a conclus\u00e3o da monografia de Convolvulaceae dentro do projeto \u201cFlora Fanerog\u00e2mica do Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo\u201d (FFESP). O estudo taxon\u00f4mico foi realizado atrav\u00e9s da an\u00e1lise das cole\u00e7\u00f5es de 14 herb\u00e1rios, sendo 690 esp\u00e9cimes provenientes da \u00e1rea de estudo, e de amostras adquiridas por meio de coletas no campo, al\u00e9m de levantamento bibliogr\u00e1fico. O estudo micromorfol\u00f3gico foi realizado atrav\u00e9s de an\u00e1lise em microscopia de luz de folhas diafanizadas e de microscopia eletr\u00f4nica de varredura. Foram registradas 11 esp\u00e9cies de <em>Merremia<\/em> para o Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo, sendo a delimita\u00e7\u00e3o destas principalmente por caracteres das folhas, indumento e tipo de tricoma. As esp\u00e9cies foram encontradas crescendo em Cerrado, bordas de matas e em ambiente antropizado. S\u00e3o apresentados: chave de identifica\u00e7\u00e3o para as esp\u00e9cies, sinon\u00edmia aceita completa, descri\u00e7\u00e3o morfol\u00f3gica e da arquitetura foliar, distribui\u00e7\u00e3o geogr\u00e1fica, coment\u00e1rios sobre rela\u00e7\u00f5es taxon\u00f4micas, conserva\u00e7\u00e3o, usos, fotografias, ilustra\u00e7\u00f5es e mapas. Neste trabalho a delimita\u00e7\u00e3o de tr\u00eas esp\u00e9cies foi melhor esclarecida: <em>M. hirsuta<\/em> (redescoberta), <em>M. maragniensis<\/em> (combina\u00e7\u00e3o em n\u00edvel de esp\u00e9cie) e <em>M. hoehnei<\/em> (esp\u00e9cie nova).
