Fatima Concei\u00e7\u00e3o M\u00e1rquez Pi\u00f1a-Rodrigues (UFSCar &#8211; Sorocaba).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">O projeto desenvolvido teve como objetivo verificar a resist\u00eancia das sementes de diferentes esp\u00e9cies de <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (Myrtaceae) ao d\u00e9ficit h\u00eddrico e tamb\u00e9m a possibilidade de uma segunda germina\u00e7\u00e3o nestas sementes, quando a primeira \u00e9 perdida pela falta de \u00e1gua dispon\u00edvel no meio, decorrente do per\u00edodo de d\u00e9ficit. <\/span><\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">D\u00e9ficit h\u00eddrico em sementes de <em>Eugenia<\/em> spp. (Myrtaceae): resist\u00eancia e rela\u00e7\u00f5es com a regenerabilidade de ra\u00edzes e pl\u00e2ntulas<\/h3>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cutting seeds of several <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> species results in the production of more than one seedling. However, there is no production of more than one seedling in each fraction, suggesting some process of self-control of the formation of several seedlings simultaneously from the same reproductive fraction. This could be understood as a strategy of spreading, in time and place, the availability of new seedlings, as an alternative to the desiccation tolerance, since they are recalcitrant, and of dormancy, demonstrated by seeds of several species. One of the environmental factors that could create favorable and unfavorable time cycles for the development and establishment of seedlings is the water availability of the soil. Recalcitrant seeds may also find environmental conditions unsuitable for seedling development, such as periods of drought. In some Brazilian regions, including those in which <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> species are commonly found, cycles of high rainfall followed by periods of drought are found, resulting in large fluctuations in the availability of water in the soil. This research aimed to analyze the regenerative capacity of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> seeds as a possible strategy to guarantee the production of new seedlings even when the seed or seedlings suffer some damages and\/or the first germination does not result in plant development due to lack of sufficient water availability in the middle. We also aimed to verify if these seeds present mechanisms of resistance to environment water deficits, maintenance the hydration, and the viability as well, of totipotent tissues which are capable of regenerate new roots and seedlings when the environment conditions become suitable. Therefore, we tried to simulate conditions of water stress in order to find the limit of tolerance of the seeds to the drought and the possibility of this stress to induce the regeneration of the seedlings. Seeds of E<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ugenia brasiliensis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">E. involucrata<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">E. pyriformis <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">E. uniflora <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">were used. The results evidenced the amazing resistance of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> seeds to the water deficit, survinving to water potential as negative as -5.0 MPa, for 60 days, after which it continued the development. They also demonstrated the continuation of the development of roots and aerial parts from a tissue apparently necrotic on its surface, evidencing that, under water stress situation, when necessary, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> seeds can trigger mechanism of formation of new roots and seedlings to guarantee the survival of the species; this is possible not only from the seed, but also from the root.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>Keywords<\/strong>:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">resistance, regeneration, water stress<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>RESUMO<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Em v\u00e1rias esp\u00e9cies de <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> o fracionamento das sementes resulta na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de mais de uma pl\u00e2ntula. Contudo, n\u00e3o h\u00e1 produ\u00e7\u00e3o de mais de uma pl\u00e2ntula em cada fra\u00e7\u00e3o, sugerindo algum processo de autocontrole da forma\u00e7\u00e3o de v\u00e1rias pl\u00e2ntulas simultaneamente a partir de uma mesma fra\u00e7\u00e3o reprodutiva. Isso poderia ser interpretado como uma estrat\u00e9gia de amplia\u00e7\u00e3o, no tempo e no espa\u00e7o, da disponibilidade de novas pl\u00e2ntulas, como uma alternativa \u00e0 toler\u00e2ncia \u00e0 desseca\u00e7\u00e3o, uma vez que s\u00e3o recalcitrantes, e da dorm\u00eancia, demonstrada por sementes de diversas esp\u00e9cies. Um dos fatores ambientais capazes de criar ciclos temporais favor\u00e1veis e desfavor\u00e1veis ao desenvolvimento e estabelecimento de pl\u00e2ntulas \u00e9 a disponibilidade h\u00eddrica do solo. Sementes recalcitrantes tamb\u00e9m podem enfrentar condi\u00e7\u00f5es n\u00e3o favor\u00e1veis ao desenvolvimento de pl\u00e2ntulas, como per\u00edodos de seca. Em algumas regi\u00f5es brasileiras, nas quais ocorre grande n\u00famero de esp\u00e9cies do g\u00eanero <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, h\u00e1 ciclos de grande precipita\u00e7\u00e3o pluvial seguidos de per\u00edodos de seca, resultando em grandes oscila\u00e7\u00f5es da disponibilidade de \u00e1gua no solo. Neste trabalho, buscou-se analisar a capacidade regenerativa de sementes de <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> como poss\u00edvel estrat\u00e9gia de garantir a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de novas pl\u00e2ntulas, mesmo quando a semente ou as pl\u00e2ntulas sofrem danos e a primeira germina\u00e7\u00e3o n\u00e3o resulta em desenvolvimento de plantas por falta de suficiente disponibilidade h\u00eddrica no meio, bem como verificar se essas sementes apresentam mecanismos de resist\u00eancia a d\u00e9ficits h\u00eddricos do meio, garantindo a manuten\u00e7\u00e3o de tecidos totipotentes capazes de manter um n\u00edvel m\u00ednimo de hidrata\u00e7\u00e3o que permita regenerar novas ra\u00edzes e pl\u00e2ntulas quando as condi\u00e7\u00f5es do meio se tornam favor\u00e1veis. Para tanto, buscou-se simular condi\u00e7\u00f5es de d\u00e9ficit h\u00eddrico a fim de encontrar o limite de toler\u00e2ncia das sementes \u00e0 seca e da possibilidade desse d\u00e9ficit induzir a regenera\u00e7\u00e3o das pl\u00e2ntulas. Foram utilizadas sementes de <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia brasiliensis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">E. involucrata<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">E. pyriformis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> e <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">E. uniflora<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Os resultados evidenciaram a grande resist\u00eancia das sementes de <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eugenia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> ao d\u00e9ficit h\u00eddrico, chegando a suportar -5,0 MPa por 60 dias, e ap\u00f3s isso continuar o desenvolvimento.
