Dra Regina Maria de Moraes (n\u00facleo de Ecologia \u2013 IBt).<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Efici\u00eancia potencial do uso do nitrog\u00eanio e f\u00f3sforo na fotoss\u00edntese ao longo de um gradiente de perturba\u00e7\u00e3o antr\u00f3pica da Mata Atl\u00e2ntica<\/h3>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A large portion of the world&#8217;s biodiversity is associated with tropical forests, and Brazil is home to one of the largest remnants of this forest group, the Atlantic Forest (MA), which also has high rates of deforestation and exists today in the form of forest fragments with varied sizes and phytophysiognomies.\u00a0It is necessary to better understand how these impacts affect the structure and functioning of human-modified forests, and a promising approach is the study of strategies on use of resource that favors the survival and perpetuation of the species, determining the formation and maintenance of these forests. Therefore, the use of functional traits that relate photosynthesis, nutrient content and leaf structure can help in a better understanding of the strategies adopted by the different species in the use of available resources in different environmental conditions.<br \/>\nIn order to characterize the functional strategies presented by the tree species along an anthropic disturbance gradient in the Atlantic Forest, dominant tree species (70% of the basal area) were sampled in two continuous forest areas with different successional conditions (OF \u2013 Mature Forest with no recent history of disturbances; SF \u2013 secondary forest, selective cut 45 years ago).\u00a0Each selected species was sampled through three individuals, with two leaves each, for the following parameters: photosynthetic capacity (A<sub>sat<\/sub>), N and P foliar content, N:P ratio, specific leaf area (SLA) and leaf dry matter content (LDMC).\u00a0The differences between OF and SF were partially confirmed, with SF presenting higher values in Asat, P and PNUE, which is due to the initial species presents in this plot.\u00a0The N: P ratio suggests P limitation (not N) in both areas. Regardless of the area, P was used much more efficiently than N, suggesting that SF appears to be close to a mature forest condition. Correlations were positive between A<sub>sat<\/sub>, N, P and SLA and negative between A<sub>sat<\/sub>-LDMC and SLA-LDMC, indicating opposite strategies between SLA-LDMC and associated parameters. The cluster analysis showed several groups, indicating in addition to the acquisitive \/ conservative extremes, intermediate groups with the A<sub>sat<\/sub> variation being more associated with nutrient use efficiency than with the absolute value of its content in the leaf.<br \/>\n<strong>Keywords<\/strong>: Atlantic Forest; functional traits; photosynthesis; nitrogen; phosphorus<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>RESUMO<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Uma grande por\u00e7\u00e3o da biodiversidade existente no globo est\u00e1 associada \u00e0s Florestas Tropicais, e o Brasil abriga um dos maiores remanescentes desse grupo de florestas, a Mata Atl\u00e2ntica (MA), que tamb\u00e9m det\u00e9m altas taxas de desmatamento e existe hoje sob a forma de fragmentos florestais com tamanhos e fitofisionomias variados. \u00c9 preciso entender melhor como esses impactos afetam a estrutura e funcionamento de florestas modificadas pelo homem, sendo que uma abordagem promissora \u00e9 o estudo das estrat\u00e9gias no uso dos recursos que favorecem a sobreviv\u00eancia e perpetua\u00e7\u00e3o da esp\u00e9cie, determinando a forma\u00e7\u00e3o e manuten\u00e7\u00e3o dessas florestas.\u00a0 Sendo assim, o uso de caracter\u00edsticas funcionais que relacionem fotoss\u00edntese, teor de nutrientes e estrutura foliar pode ajudar em uma melhor compreens\u00e3o sobre as estrat\u00e9gias adotadas pelas diferentes esp\u00e9cies nos uso de recursos dispon\u00edveis em diferentes condi\u00e7\u00f5es ambientais. Com o objetivo de caracterizar as estrat\u00e9gias funcionais apresentadas pelas esp\u00e9cies arb\u00f3reas ao longo de um gradiente de perturba\u00e7\u00e3o antr\u00f3pica na Mata Atl\u00e2ntica, foram amostradas esp\u00e9cies arb\u00f3reas dominantes (70% da \u00e1rea basal) em duas \u00e1reas de florestas cont\u00ednuas com diferentes condi\u00e7\u00f5es sucessionais (FM; madura, sem hist\u00f3rico recente de dist\u00farbios\/FS; secund\u00e1ria, corte seletivo h\u00e1 45 anos). Cada esp\u00e9cie selecionada foi amostrada atrav\u00e9s de tr\u00eas indiv\u00edduos, com duas folhas cada, para os seguintes par\u00e2metros: Assimila\u00e7\u00e3o de carbono com luz saturante (Asat), conte\u00fado N e P foliar (que permitiram os c\u00e1lculos de efici\u00eancia do uso dos nutrientes na fotoss\u00edntese), \u00e1rea foliar espec\u00edfica (AFE) e conte\u00fado de mat\u00e9ria seca foliar (CMSF).\u00a0 Nossas hip\u00f3teses de trabalho foram: (1) FS apresenta um comportamento mais pr\u00f3ximo de estrat\u00e9gia aquisitiva no uso dos recursos em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a FM (conservativo), com altos valores de N, P, Asat, AFE e efici\u00eancia do uso do N em Asat (Epunf) e baixos valores de conte\u00fado de CMSF e efici\u00eancia do uso do f\u00f3sforo em Asat (Epuff), com FM sendo o inverso; (2) se as correla\u00e7\u00f5es observadas entre os par\u00e2metros caracterizam os extremos aquisitivo e conservativo ao longo de um eixo econ\u00f4mico foliar; e se \u00e9 poss\u00edvel distinguir estrat\u00e9gias no uso dos recursos independente da parcela por meio de agrupamentos. As diferen\u00e7as entre FM e FS foram parcialmente confirmadas, com FS apresentando maiores valores de Asat, P e Epunf, o que se deve as esp\u00e9cies iniciais na sucess\u00e3o presentes. A raz\u00e3o N:P indicou limita\u00e7\u00e3o por P nas duas \u00e1reas. Independentemente da \u00e1rea, P foi utilizado com mais efici\u00eancia que o N, sugerindo que FS parece estar pr\u00f3xima a uma condi\u00e7\u00e3o de floresta madura. As correla\u00e7\u00f5es foram positivas entre Asat, N, P e AFE e negativas entre Asat-CMSF e AFE-CMSF, indicando estrat\u00e9gias opostas entre AFE-CMSF e par\u00e2metros associados.
