Luciane Oliveira Crossetti (UFRGS), Prof\u00b0 Dr. Jo\u00e3o Carlos Nabout (UEG), Prof\u00b0 Dr. Raoul Henry (UNESP-Botucatu) e Prof\u00b0 Dr. Carlos Eduardo de Mattos Bicudo (IBt).<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Avalia\u00e7\u00e3o espacial e sazonal da estrutura das comunidades fitoplanct\u00f4nica e ficoperif\u00edtica em reservat\u00f3rios de diferentes estados tr\u00f3ficos (sub-bacia do alto rio Tiet\u00ea, S\u00e3o Paulo)<\/h3>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Planktonic and periphytic algae are sensitive microorganisms that are strongly affected by environmental disturbances. Accordingly, the study aimed to relate the phytoplankton and phycoperiphyton structures to water physical and chemical conditions, in order to understand how these communities respond to different trophic conditions as well as seasonal variations of limnological variables. Water, phytoplankton and epiphyton samplings were performed in two or three sites and at different depths in six reservoirs with different trophic state (oligotrophic to hypereutrophic), in summer and winter of 2010. In the <strong>1st chapter<\/strong> pronounced changes were found in the set of functional traits of the phytoplankton community in reservoirs with different trophic states and species composition, caused by the influence of seasonal variations on limnological conditions, mainly water temperature and thermal gradient in the water column. In the <strong>2nd chapter<\/strong>, we compare the phytoplankton community responses taxonomically (species) and ecologically (functional groups <em>sensu <\/em>Reynolds and <em>sensu <\/em>Kruk) in relation to changes in environmental variables. The results showed that the phytoplankton taxonomic classification was primarily related to the trophic state of the reservoirs, whereas the functional groups (ecological classification) were more associated with the seasonal variation of limnological conditions. Specifically, the functional groups <em>sensu<\/em> Reynolds showed more details of the phytoplankton community responses to temporal scale in different trophic conditions. In the <strong>3rd chapter<\/strong>, we applied a biotic index (Q index of phytoplankton functional groups) to assess the ecological status of the reservoirs. The index consistently showed the spatial and temporal variations of the ecological status of the reservoirs. Moreover, the increase in total phosphorus concentrations and conductivity decreased the ecological status qualification (<em>tolerable <\/em>to <em>bad<\/em>), whereas the increase in water transparency increased the ecological status qualification (<em>good<\/em> to <em>excellent<\/em>) of the reservoirs. In the <strong>4th <\/strong>and<strong> 5th chapters<\/strong>, structural changes and the high species richness and diversity of the epiphytic community demonstrated its potential bioindicator, mainly in adverse conditions, such as low nutrient availability and high competition with the phytoplankton, or yet the high degradation of water quality. Finally, we emphasize that, besides the great contribution to the knowledge of biodiversity, the joint assessment of the phytoplankton and phycoperiphyton communities provided a holistic view of the functioning of the reservoirs and that the structural and functional attributes of these communities can be used in monitoring and evaluating the ecological status of aquatic ecosystems, including tropical reservoirs.<br \/>\n<strong>Keywords<\/strong>: phytoplankton, epiphyton, functional approach, trophic status, seasonality<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>RESUMO<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As algas planct\u00f4nicas e perif\u00edticas s\u00e3o microrganismos sens\u00edveis e fortemente afetados pelas perturba\u00e7\u00f5es ambientais. Nesse sentido, o estudo objetivou relacionar a estrutura do fitopl\u00e2ncton e do ficoperif\u00edton com as condi\u00e7\u00f5es f\u00edsicas e qu\u00edmicas da \u00e1gua, visando compreender como essas comunidades respondem \u00e0s diferentes condi\u00e7\u00f5es tr\u00f3ficas e \u00e0 varia\u00e7\u00e3o sazonal das vari\u00e1veis limnol\u00f3gicas. Amostragens de \u00e1gua, fitopl\u00e2ncton e epif\u00edton foram realizadas em dois a tr\u00eas locais e em diferentes profundidades em seis reservat\u00f3rios com diferentes estados tr\u00f3ficos (oligotr\u00f3fico a hipereutr\u00f3fico), no ver\u00e3o e inverno de 2010. No 1\u00b0 cap\u00edtulo foi verificada pronunciada mudan\u00e7a no conjunto de tra\u00e7os funcionais da comunidade fitoplanct\u00f4nica em reservat\u00f3rios de diferentes trofias e composi\u00e7\u00e3o de esp\u00e9cies, devido \u00e0 influ\u00eancia das varia\u00e7\u00f5es sazonais nas condi\u00e7\u00f5es limnol\u00f3gicas, especialmente temperatura da \u00e1gua e gradiente t\u00e9rmico da coluna d&#8217;\u00e1gua. No 2\u00b0 cap\u00edtulo comparamos as respostas da comunidade fitoplanct\u00f4nica em termos de classifica\u00e7\u00f5es taxon\u00f4mica (esp\u00e9cies) e ecol\u00f3gica (grupos funcionais <em>sensu<\/em> Reynolds e <em>sensu<\/em> Kruk) em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0s mudan\u00e7as nas vari\u00e1veis ambientais. Os resultados mostraram que a classifica\u00e7\u00e3o taxon\u00f4mica do fitopl\u00e2ncton foi relacionado primeiramente ao estado tr\u00f3fico dos reservat\u00f3rios, enquanto que os grupos funcionais (classifica\u00e7\u00e3o ecol\u00f3gica) foram associados mais \u00e0 varia\u00e7\u00e3o sazonal das condi\u00e7\u00f5es limnol\u00f3gicas. Especificamente, os grupos funcionais <em>sensu<\/em> Reynolds demonstraram de forma mais detalhada as respostas da comunidade fitoplanct\u00f4nica em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 escala temporal nas diferentes condi\u00e7\u00f5es tr\u00f3ficas. No 3\u00b0 cap\u00edtulo aplicamos um \u00edndice bi\u00f3tico (\u00edndice Q de grupos funcionais do fitopl\u00e2ncton) para avaliar o estado ecol\u00f3gico dos reservat\u00f3rios. O \u00edndice demonstrou de forma consistente a varia\u00e7\u00e3o espacial e temporal do estado ecol\u00f3gico dos reservat\u00f3rios. Al\u00e9m disso, o aumento nas concentra\u00e7\u00f5es de f\u00f3sforo total e condutividade levou a redu\u00e7\u00e3o do estado ecol\u00f3gico (toler\u00e1vel a ruim), enquanto que o aumento da transpar\u00eancia da \u00e1gua causou o aumento da qualifica\u00e7\u00e3o do estado ecol\u00f3gico (bom a excelente) dos reservat\u00f3rios. Nos 4\u00b0 e 5\u00b0 cap\u00edtulos, as mudan\u00e7as estruturais e a elevada riqueza e diversidade de esp\u00e9cies da comunidade epif\u00edtica demonstraram o seu potencial bioindicador, principalmente em condi\u00e7\u00f5es adversas, como a reduzida disponibilidade de nutrientes e alta competi\u00e7\u00e3o com o fitopl\u00e2ncton ou ainda, de elevada degrada\u00e7\u00e3o da qualidade da \u00e1gua.
