Regina Maria de Moraes, do N\u00facleo de Pesquisa em Ecologia do Instituto de Bot\u00e2nica de S\u00e3o Paulo.<br \/>\nA banca examinadora foi presidida pela Dra. Regina Maria de Moraes e contou com a participa\u00e7\u00e3o da Dra. Cl\u00e1udia Maria Furlan (IB-USP) e do Dr. S\u00e9rgio Tadeu Meirelles (Departamento de Ecologia da Universidade de S\u00e3o Paulo \/ USP)<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Avalia\u00e7\u00e3o de \u00edndice de prote\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o baseado na dose fitot\u00f3xica de oz\u00f4nio<\/h3>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although ozone concentrations (O3) have increased in the Metropolitan Region of S\u00e3o Paulo (MRSP) annually, critical levels for vegetation protection against O3 adverse effects do not exist Some northern countries have adopted critical levels based on the phytotoxic ozone dose (DFO) absorbed by the stomata (DO3SE model), which has shown better correlation with injuries than concentration-based metrics. The aim of this study was to investigate the applicability of the model based on DFO for the tropical species Astronium graveolens Jacq. and to compare its performance with accumulated concentration indices AOT40 (the sum of hourly ozone concentrations over a threshold of 40 ppb), SUM00 (the sum of all daytime ozone concentration) and SUM06 (all hourly concentrations over a threshold of 60 ppb) in predict leaf injuries. Visible foliar injury and leaf senescence induced by O3 were the response variables. The central part of the model is stomatal conductance (gs), this one was measured at ambient conditions to evaluate the influence of environmental parameters on it. The model performance was assessed through the relationship between the measured and modeled gs. Different rate thresholds for the phytotoxic ozone dose were calculated. The foliar injury were analyzed throughout the study and associated with indices. Modeled versus measured relative stomatal conductance, shows a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.40. Analyses revealed a significant relationship between SUM00 and POD0. Both performing equally well and they were superior, as compared to AOT40, for explain foliar injury. The conclusion is that the DO3SE model can be applied to ozone risk assessment to tropical vegetation. However further investigation is necessary to improve its predictive capacity.<br \/>\n<strong>Keywords:<\/strong>\u00a0Ozone flux; stomatal conductance; foliar injuries<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>RESUMO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Apesar das concentra\u00e7\u00f5es de oz\u00f4nio (O3) aumentarem anualmente na Regi\u00e3o Metropolitana de S\u00e3o Paulo (RMSP), no Brasil n\u00e3o existem \u00edndices para a prote\u00e7\u00e3o da vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o contra os efeitos deste poluente. Alguns pa\u00edses do hemisf\u00e9rio norte t\u00eam adotado n\u00edveis cr\u00edticos baseados na dose fitot\u00f3xica de oz\u00f4nio (DFO) absorvida pelos est\u00f4matos (modelo DO3SE). Este tem mostrado melhor correla\u00e7\u00e3o com as respostas das plantas, comparado \u00e0s m\u00e9tricas baseadas na concentra\u00e7\u00e3o acumulada de oz\u00f4nio. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a aplicabilidade do modelo baseado na DFO para a esp\u00e9cie tropical <em>Astronium graveolens<\/em> Jacq. e comparar sua performance com \u00edndices de concentra\u00e7\u00e3o acumulada: EAO40 (soma das concentra\u00e7\u00f5es acumuladas de oz\u00f4nio acima de 40 ppb), SOMA00 (soma das concentra\u00e7\u00f5es acumuladas de oz\u00f4nio) e SOMA06 (soma das concentra\u00e7\u00f5es acumuladas de oz\u00f4nio acima de 60 ppb). As inj\u00farias foliares vis\u00edveis e a senesc\u00eancia foliar induzidas pelo O3 foram as vari\u00e1veis-resposta. A parte central do modelo \u00e9 a condut\u00e2ncia estom\u00e1tica, que foi medida em condi\u00e7\u00f5es ambientais visando determinar como os par\u00e2metros ambientais a modulam. O desempenho do modelo foi avaliada atrav\u00e9s de an\u00e1lise de regress\u00e3o entre a gs medida e a modelada. Diferentes n\u00edveis cr\u00edticos forma testados para a DFO. Os sintomas foliares foram quantificados durante todo o experimento e relacionados com os \u00edndices. An\u00e1lise de regress\u00e3o entre a condut\u00e2ncia medida e a modelada mostrou um coeficiente de determina\u00e7\u00e3o (R2) de 0,40. As an\u00e1lises apontaram uma rela\u00e7\u00e3o significativa entre a SOMA00 e DFO0. Ambos os \u00edndices responderam de forma similar, explicando melhor as inj\u00farias foliares do que a EAO40. O estudo sugere que o modelo DO3SE pode ser aplicado na avalia\u00e7\u00e3o dos riscos do oz\u00f4nio \u00e0 vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o tropical.
